I’m Going to New York Fashion Week: Timo Weiland

Hey Everyone!!!

As you may have seen, I have been in the process of revamping my blog. I am proud to say that I am new owner of my own domain name! I have been writing for Adolescent Chic for over three years now and this blog has given me the opportunity to intern and work at fashion magazines, attend a multitude of fashion shows and interview a vast array of celebrities.

Today, I am covering Timo Weiland’s SS 2017 Women’s Presentation. Here we go:

img_3649img_3650img_3661img_3717

Clothing: Timo Weiland, along with co-designers Donna Kang and Alan Eckstein, channeled the late 1980’s and 1990’s in this seasons women’s collection. The presentation was adorned by graphic prints, bold colors and flowing silhouettes. I am usually not a huge fan of a flared pant, however, I actually believe that looks 1 and 4 utilized the technique thoughtfully. I am not sure if this collection truly connected to the edgy and emotional aesthetic that was the 1990’s, but as far as wearability and tailoring goes, the collection was quite stellar.

Accessories and Styling:

Accessories and Styling: The models wore an assortment of accessories including reflective sunglasses, oversized earrings, leather sandals and flat booties. The makeup consisted of purely neutral colors with an incredibly dewy finish. The hair was either made incredibly sleek with sheen spray and hair gel or placed into a messy bun to emulate that “I don’t give a care” 90’s do.

I hope you all enjoyed the post! I’m pretty much done with reviewing NYFW shows for the moment, so I will be sending out some new, original content in the next few weeks. I’ll see you all soon!

I’m Going to New York Fashion Week: Thaddeus O’Neil

Hey Everyone!!!

IMG_2493

In celebration of this upcoming S/S 2017 NYFW, I decided to cover a show that I attended but was unable to properly report due to time constraints. Thaddeus O’Neil’s SS16 presentation was deemed a “Disco Sea Party”, adorned with imported palm trees, beach supplies, sand and tropical beverages. The clothing reflected the theme with an assortment of vacation worthy attire. Here we go!

IMG_2502IMG_2508IMG_2515

Accessories and Styling: As stated previously, the collection concentrated on keeping a lax, surfer-like ambiance. The models were styled with sun hats, beach accessories and even light weight instruments. For the female and androgynous models, the makeup included a copper and golden smokey eye, bronzed skin and peach blush. Their hair was put into beach waves – cementing their status as beach royalty.

IMG_2520IMG_2528IMG_2530

Clothing: The clothing including a set of island-inspired prints, from palm tree shorts to pineapple blouses, patterned bikini tops and neoprene ensembles. Most of the fabric choices were lightweight and breathy – a perfect choice for a day on the beach. My favorite outfit was the printed empire waist mini dress that the last model wore. I love the drama that the conflicting patterns bring to the look!

I’m Going to New York Fashion Week: Kenneth Ning

Hey everyone!!!

Today I will be showcasing an up and coming designer who showed his sophomore collection at NYFW: Men’s Fall 2016 – Kenneth Ning. His collection was inspired by the concept of revenge, and utilized clean lines, dark colors, leather, metalwork and artistic designs. Here we go:

IMG_3010

IMG_3002IMG_3003IMG_3006

IMG_3008

Accessories and Styling: In relation to the accessories, Ning kept the add-ons relative simple with a collection of black and white sneakers and dress shoes. However, each model wore a pair of silver and golden dangling earrings that the crown raved over. I personally loved the simple touch of elegance yet uniqueness that each pair added to the silhouettes. Along with this, the male models had a very simple look while the female models each had an intricate smokey eye that added a flair of drama to the presentation.

IMG_3048IMG_3062IMG_3070IMG_3079

Clothing: The Kenneth Ning show was one of the last men’s fashion shows that I had the pleasure to attend this season. It is also one of my favorite collections – period. The craftsmanship of the pieces were spectacular, the styling was perfection and the clothing matched the theme of revenge and sadness amazingly. I believe that Kenneth Ning has a very bright future in men’s fashion.

I’m Going to Mercedes-Benz/MADE Fashion Week!: Bobby Abley Overview + Giveaway!!!

Hey Everyone!!!

BA7

Today, I will be posting the first fashion presentation at MADE Fashion Week that I had the pleasure to attend. Due to the poor weather and unfit hotel accommodations, I was only able to participate in NYFW for 2 days. On the first day, I spent the entire duration at Lincoln Center, where I watched three separate shows. On the final day, I spent the evening at Milk Studios and saw a concurrent four collection presentation on the 8th floor. Here we go:

BA1

BA2

BA3

BA5

Accessories and Styling: For most of the shows, I review the hair styles and makeup application on the models from the runway. Since all of the shows that I attended at Milk Studios were stationed with male models, I decided to concentrate on the styling of their hair and the accessories with their clothing. Each of the models had a very laid back yet put together hair style to reflect the child-like innocence of the collection. Each model wore a pair of burgundy sneakers, neon backpacks and faceless teddy bears. All in all, the nostalgic appeal of the collection was found in the styling as well.

BA8

BA9 BA10

Clothing: Now, time for the most important aspect of every fashion show: the clothing. I had the fabulous opportunity to speak with Mr. Abley, and found that he has a history of being inspired by Disney cartoons and traditional fairytales. Following his The Little Mermaid inspired collection for London’s Fashion Week: Men’s Collection last July, Abley created a The Jungle Book inspired collection for MADE Fashion Week. With bold cartoon-inspired prints, knit shorts, the installation of geometric patterns and a refreshingly juvenile method of styling, the Bobby Abley FW 2015 collection was the perfect mix of child-like nostalgia and contemporary chicness.

Loved this look!!!

I was very happy to have the opportunity to attend and review such a large amount of men’s fashion shows this season at NYFW. If you want to check out more of Bobby Abley’s work, check out his website here. I will have my Charlotte Ronson overview up soon (I lost my flash drive so I had to restart from scratch). Also, remember that my giveaway for a $50 Forever 21 Gift Card is still open here!!!!

I’m Going to Mercedes-Benz/MADE Fashion Week!: Rebecca Minkoff Overview + GIVEAWAY!!!

Hey Everyone!!!

RM 3

Welcome to my first post about my experience at New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2015! I wasn’t able to post as heavily during last season due to some scheduling conflicts, but I have some truly incredible collections to show you this time around! As I said in my overview of the David Tlale FW 2014 Collection (which I wrote almost an entire year ago!), the beauty of fashion week is there are times that you can get into shows that you weren’t originally invited to. I was able to get into the Rebecca Minkoff show through standing room and a very kind member of the band. Here we go:

RM 1

RM 2

Music: Rebecca Minkoff is one of the few presentations that always utilizes live music in all of her fashion presentations. This year’s band was possibly the most talented and well suited for the collection that I have ever experienced. The collection, which was inspired by the 1970’s hippie movement and the punk rock era, was heavily complimented by the 70’s inspired music that also had a modern twist. The sultry vocals and jazzy atmosphere was perfect for the entire presentation.

RM 5

RM 6

Beauty: After doing some researching regarding Mrs. Minkoff’s inspiration for her fall collection, I learned that she was inspired by the Chelsea Hotel girls, including iconic names such as Janis Joplin and Grace Slick. The girls hair was left in messy, long and grungy waves, while their makeup consisted of bold eyeliner, rose gold eyeshadow and neutral lips. All in all, the beauty aspects of the show perfectly fit the era that Minkoff attempted, and succeeded, in conveying.

RM 7

RM 8

RM 9

Clothing: While the presentation and the styling are very important components of any fashion show, the clothing is by far paramount in importance. The collection was absolutely breathtaking. With an emphasis on luxurious outerwear consisting of tweed and suede, flowing chiffon tops and maxi skirts, modern-day capes with fringe and impeccable use of leather, the Rebecca Minkoff FW 2015 Fashion Show was incredible. I hope to see the articles presented at this show worn by fashionistas of all backgrounds in months to come.

I’m Going to Mercedes-Benz/MADE Fashion Week: Celebrity Meet Ups!!!!

Hey Everyone!!!

I just wanted to do a quick post today for my lovely viewers – and this post is so exciting to make. Basically, when I got to fashion week, not only were my eyes on the incredible clothing and makeup, but I also scanned the front rows for recognizable faces (celeb stalking)!!!

 Image

Here I am with AnnaSophia Robb right after the Rebecca Minkoff Show – I totally fan girled! I wasn’t originally invited to this show, but I was able to get in through by a standing room ticket.

Image

Now, this picture has a hilarious story! The Nautica show was another show that I wasn’t actually invited to, but due to the magic of standing room, I was able to access backstage. While randomly interviewing and taking pictures of random models, I met up with this really nice guy. We started to talk about his career, his past and other little things when he asked if I wanted to get a picture with him. It wasn’t until I posted the photo on Facebook did I realize that the guy was Kellan Lutz!

Image

This was a picture that I took of Gregg Asher right after the Carmen Marc Valvo show.

Image

Now, any of you who have followed me in the last few months know about my undying obsession with Gossip Girl – now imagine my surprise when Kelly Rutherford, or THE LILY VAN DER WOODSEN, was backstage at Vivienne Tam. I almost died when I got the chance to take a picture of one of my fashion idols!

I’m Going to Mercedes-Benz/MADE Fashion Week: David Tlale Overview + GIVEAWAY!!!!

Hey Everyone!!!

Image

Welcome to my fourth post about my experience at New York Fashion Week. Today I will be posting about the incredible collection by David Tlale. Now, the beauty of fashion week is that you sometimes are able to get into shows that you weren’t originally invited to. This was the case for my experience at the David Tlale show, as I was given a spare invitation from a very kind friend. This show took place at the Pavilion, a more intimate setting similar to that of Milk Studios located at Lincoln Center.

ImageImageImageImage

Music: The David Tlale had the most soft, alluring music of all the shows that I was able to attend. I wish that I could have asked the editor who composed the pieces, as it was absolutely beautiful. Imagine living in a majestic world of faeries who wore amazing clothing – this was the David Tlale show. The mix of beautiful piano pieces and strong ballads emphasized the femininity of the collection.

ImageImageImageImage

Beauty: Brows, brows brows!!! I couldn’t help but notice that one of the consistent factors of the show were full, strong brows with a prominent arch. Along with this, the models were also given a subtle makeup look with excess amounts of highlighter and bronzer to add dimension to the face. The hairstyles were very sleek, all of which led to a very soft and feminine appeal.

ImageImageImageImage

Clothing: Now, time to get the most important aspect of every fashion show: the clothing! This collection was absolutely amazing. Unlike the Czar or Ostwald Helgason collection, David Tlale’s clothing had very little to no masculine themes — the clothing screamed classic femininity through the use of soft fabrics, flowing silhouettes and tasteful sequin. The clothing were excellently created, however, there wasn’t too much concentration on construction. All in all, I am in awe of the collection – even if my personal preference calls for a few more edgy accessories.

Image

Image

This is just a photo of what I wore to the show. I really love the intricacy of the tweed trench coat and the bright pop of color found in the red sweater. Also, remember that my giveaway for a LORAC Pro Palette is still open here!!!!

I’m Going to Mercedes-Benz/MADE Fashion Week!: Czar by Cesar Galindo Overview

Hey Everyone!!!

Image

Today I will be writing my first post for a Mercedes-Benz Fashion show that I had the pleasure to attend –Czar by Cesar Galindo! Now, for those who obsessively followed all information even related to Fashion Week, then you would have noticed that many of the shows were sent to an off-site location known as The Hub at the Hudson Hotel. The “fashion show” was actually a live presentation of the collection. Here we go with the overview:

ImageImage

Beauty: Unlike the Ostwald Helgason show, which contained very subtle makeup with sleek hairstyles, the Cesar Galindo show presented a very bold accent of blue hair dye on each model with a strong bronze smokey eye. The look was the most intense of the shows that I was able to attend, which actual proved appropriate for the clothing.

Image

Image

Clothing: The clothing was absolutely spectacular! The collection was similar to the Ostwald Helgason in the sense that both were metallic heavy, however, it was more concentrated on a classic sophistication with an androgynous tone. The collection was quite the mix of masculinity due to the constructed pants and jumpsuits, however, this only adds to the sex appeal. While I wasn’t completely in love with every piece from this collection, it was only because of my taste. The clothing itself was superb.

This photo is just a selfie of my hair, makeup and outfit for one of the days – the dress is by Cynthia Rowley!!!

I’m Going to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week (!) : Desigual Overview

Hey Guys!!!

I’m so sorry for being MIA for so long – I had to get a huge amount of work done and I didn’t have any time to breath let alone blog! But now, I am back in the the swing of things and I have great news: I’ve been invited to cover Mercedes Benz and MADE Fashion Week! Today, I will be covering the Desigual fashion show. I was invited to the show, but unfortunately I was unable to make it on time due to the weather in NYC . However, I will be in New York tomorrow to attend some shows. Now, let’s get to the review!!!

Dots Galore

Image

Image

Image

I’ve noticed that this season has been all about the prints – particularly polka dots! One of the defining characteristics of a Desigual fashion show is the light-hearted feel and bold aesthetic of all the clothing. I personally know that the use of polka dots can become very tacky, very quick. However, by incorporating the print into similar patterns, the outfits were made to be fun and funky instead of old and matronly.

Mixed Prints

Image

Image

Image

As I said previously, the Desigual show chose a very courageous route in mixing bold prints. I absolutely love breaking rules (I personally believe that there are no rules in fashion!) and feel that this was an ingenius strategy in creating beautiful clothing. I particularly love the third look down, which successfully mixes a rainbow floral print with a black-and-white polka dot print. I predict that bold, bright colors will become a huge trend for fall/winter this year.

FAVORITE LOOKS

Image

Now, you may want to avert your eyes if you can’t handle too much perfection; not only does this photo present the incredible Candice Swanepoel, but it shows her in this incredible trench coat-inspired dress. I am in love with the use of angular designs on this coat, as it adds an edgy feel to the relatively bubbly show. I would have to name this coat my favorite piece of the entire collection!

Image

Image

Now, both of these gowns share a similar design inspired by swirling leaves and rose. I love the use of foiled gold and maxi length in the first gown, however, it is the second gowns deep red color on the model’s beautiful skin that truly entrances me. All in all, I was more than impressed by the Desigual collection. I was a little wary due to the knowledge that Desigual’s main strength is bright colors, a trend usually found in Spring. However, they were able to strategize in order to make Winter appropriate attire with these colors.

Designer Decoding: Mathieu Mirano

Hey Everyone!!!

My post on Oscar de La Renta was very popular, so I decided to write another post on a designer! I have decided that I will be always follow an established designer with an up-and-coming designer. As a newer blogger, I feel almost obliged to help out fellow newbies to the fashion industry. Now, for this edition of Designer Decoding, I have an astoundingly talented designer who, at the tender age of 22, has already had a show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week and dressed the likes of Lady Gaga and Nicole Richie. Here you go:

Promotion Photo and Background Information

Image

Photo: 1

Born and raised in the fashion capital that is New York City, Mathieu Mirano attended the Huntington School of Fine Arts before eventually moving on to the highly esteemed Parson School of Design. Mirano’s designs are distinct for there perfect mix of creative whimsy and impeccable construction. Mirano claims to be inspired by “his extensive travels and cultural experiences in Europe, Asia and Africa.” With all that Mirano has and continues to accomplish, it is quite difficult to believe that he is only 22 years old!

Runway Looks

Image

Photo: 1

All of these outfits appeared at Mirano’s Spring 2013 collection, and show his talent with bold colors, prints and overall tailoring. The first look on the far right consist on a simple white, long sleeved top paired with a cream colored short. I love how well it fits the model and how understated it is in comparison to the other pieces. I am particularly a fan of the tiered overskirt on the second dress (do I spy a new peplum trend) and the golden fossil-based print on the fourth dress.

Image

Photo: 1

Now, all of these outfits appeared in Mirano’s most recent collection for the Spring 2014 collection. This shows his extensive knowledge on sequins along with his great eye for cohesion. By using the same fabric in each outfit, the audience can tell that the outfits come from a similar collection. Also, while sequin can easily go very wrong, Mirano is able to use understated pieces to balance out the glitz and glam.

Image

Image

Image

Photo: 1,2 and 3

Now, these are 3 of my favorite looks from all of Mirano’s pieces. They all were in his collection last year, and include a leather skirt. Now, for my regular readers, you know of my love for edgy/glamourous fashion, and leather skirts are the perfect balance of each. These three looks are a perfect example of Mirano’s aesthetic, which is chic, powerful and whimsical.

Celebrity Photos

Image

Photo: 1

This is Nicole Richie, or the Boho-Chic Queen, in Mathieu Mirano at the 2012 Alma Awards. I first have to start by saying this dress immediately reminds me of Blair’s Marchesa prom gown that Leighton Meester wore at the end of season 2 of Gossip Girl. I love golden sequin mixed with black linen, as I feel that it is the perfect mix of bright and dark. This gown looks wonderful on both the model and Nicole, however, I wish that Nicole would have gone slightly lighter on the eye liner and shown off her natural beauty in this amazing gown.

Image

Photo: 1

Now, this gown definitely portrays Mathieu’s versatility as a designer. Not only can he create beautiful Ready to Wear outfits, but he can create magnificent Haute Couture works of art. This custom made gown was worn by Lady Gaga during her Good Morning America debut of her hit song “Applause”. I just love how the shoulder pads look like two beautiful wings on her back, and how clear and simple this look is in comparison to some of her other looks.

Please check out more of Mirano’s work at: http://mathieumirano.com/

He is such an excellent designer and I hope he has years of success!
